I read that they were owned by the women who lived here in the past, but does the government own them now and do the women pay the Begijnhof Foundation rent or subsidized rents? I believe that it is owned by their religious order. and it functions as a retirement facility for older women of that order. I gather they are slowly passing and there are no replacements.
