The OpenAI rival has options in its showdown with the Pentagon.
AI safety and research company Anthropic has told the Pentagon it will not agree to their demands to drop critical safety precautions and grant the U.S. military full access to their AI capabilities.
The Pentagon may decide to officially designate Anthropic as a "supply chain risk" to push them out of government, sources say.
Until this week, Anthropic was the only AI company cleared to deploy its models on classified networks. Elon Musk's xAI is now the second.
Pete Hegseth and Jeanine Pirro launched related crusades. Both lost in court. Only one of them, however, had the sense to know when to quit.

Pete Hegseth fires Joint Staff director just two months into job
Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth removed the director of the Joint Staff on Thursday. This came just two months after the senior officer took on the important Pentagon role, according to three U.S. officials familiar with the decision.
The Defense secretary appealed a ruling this month in favor of the former Navy captain.
Hegseth claimed the core tenets of American governance and individual liberty are drawn directly from Christian faith.
The showdown took place during a meeting at the Pentagon between Mr Hegseth and Dario Amodei, Anthropic’s boss, whose credo is “Responsible AI ”. Mr Amodei was summoned to the Department of War ( DOW) because Anthropic is in a unique position.
