A former minor league baseball player and father drowned after getting caught in a rip current while trying to save a family in the water in South Carolina, according to police and a fundraiser for his family.

Shane Beamer and the South Carolina Gamecocks landed a four-star quarterback in the 2026 class as Landon Duckworth committed to the program.

South Carolina lost 19 players to the transfer portal, eight ran out of eligibility and three — Ethan Petry, Nathan Hall and senior Matthew Becker — were drafted in the recent MLB Draft. Position players who decided to transfer include starters in designated hitter Jase Woita (Missouri) and shortstop Henry Kaczmar (Ohio State).

South Carolina baseball outfielder Nathan Hall was selected by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the fifth round of the 2025 MLB Draft on July 14.
