SEC annual opponents, explained: Why Alabama-LSU game won't be played annually and more to know
This one is by far the most notable. Alabama holds a 57-5-27 overall record over the Tigers, and the Tide won eight straight from 2011-2018. Heck, the "Game of the Century" from 2011 was so good-a gritty 9-6 LSU victory-that it gave us the first-ever BCS Championship rematch. That in itself was the catalyst for the new CFP era.
The SEC made it official in a Tuesday night announcement. Alabama football won’t be playing LSU on a yearly basis anymore, drawing Mississippi State as its third annual opponent, along with Auburn and Tennessee.

The SEC’s rivalries are set, at least for the next four years. The schedule will preserve key rivalries, but Alabama-LSU will not be kept annually.
This set of annual opponents will only be applied for a four-year cycle over the 2026 to 2029 seasons and will be revisited for 2030.
