The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is warning drivers that deer mating season can mean a higher risk of crashes as people may be commuting in the dark.

According to a study by the Wildlife Center of Virginia, Virginia ranks ninth in the nation for deer-vehicle collisions.
