For a man who’s spent his career battling to make France more pro-business, Europe’s prospects on artificial intelligence are worrying: an oversight that could cost the bloc dearly.

Roughly 1,500 invitees gathered in Paris to kick off the high-profile AI Action Summit. Though the guest list includes a slew of government leaders and tech giants, including the likes of U.S. Vice President JD Vance and Google CEO Sundar Pinchai,

Macron said it was crucial to develop artificial intelligence that was "at the service of humanity" and regulated to guard from dangerous pitfalls. But he also urged Europe to cut red tape, foster more AI startups and invest in computing abilities.

Macron asked tech giants to pick Europe and France for AI, saying that they would work with others and would introduce 'smart regulation'.
