Protesters in Israel on Tuesday torched tires, blocked highways and clamored for a ceasefire that would free hostages still in Gaza, as Israeli leaders pressed ahead with plans for an offensive which they argue is needed to crush Hamas.

In southern Gaza, an Israeli attack on Nasser Hospital killed at least 21 people, including five journalists, receiving widespread global condemnation. Al Jazeera’s cameraman, Mohammed Salama, was among the victims. The network accused Israel of waging a “systematic campaign to silence the truth”.

The strike was among the deadliest of several Israeli strikes that have hit both hospitals and journalists over the course of the 22-month war.
