Wassily Kandinsky (1866–1944) is one of Russia’s most famous artists and the founder of abstract art. His compositions have become iconic abstract art pieces around the world.

Kandinsky was Russian, born in Moscow in 1866. He never lost links with Russian art and culture. He expressed a profound belief in Russian Orthodoxy as the sole true faith.

Wassily Kandinsky, however, was fascinated by the music and began to express his impressions in his artwork. "Kandinsky's task was to turn the music into paintings," said Harald Wetzel.
