E vasive actions were needed moments after two passenger jets took off from Los Angeles International Airport last Friday, on of the carriers involved confirms.

Plans to cut flights have left travelers angry and anxious. Some tried to move their travel plans up, while others were trying to figure out alternatives in case their flights were canceled.

Ongoing shutdown threatens to cripple LAX ahead of Thanksgiving, with warnings of delays, cancellations, and possible airspace closures.

Delays of nearly 1½ hours were anticipated for flights heading to LAX between 8 and 10 p.m. In San Diego, delays of 1 hour, 20 minutes were expected between 9 and 10 p.m.

LAX will cut flights by 10% due to air traffic controller shortages and a prolonged government shutdown impacting airports nationwide.

The restriction came after Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy warned that flight disruptions will increase as controllers miss a paycheck on Oct. 28.

After American Airlines shifts to Terminal 4 Tuesday, Terminal 5 will be completely closed to begin demolition efforts.
