Emergency pumps are deployed in attempt to stop water inundating homes around River Parrett
The Environment Agency (EA) has issued one flood warning, meaning flooding is "expected", and eight flood alerts, meaning flooding is "possible", in Somerset. Storm Ingrid, named by the Portuguese national weather service, is forecast to bring wind and rain to the South West today before easing on Saturday morning.
Further heavy rain is forecast for the end of the week, falling on already saturated ground.
Their preparations follow Storm Chandra, which brought disruption and flooding across the UK on Tuesday, prompting Somerset Council to declare a major incident. A key route through Burrowbridge is already shut, and the Environment Agency's nearby pumps run at "full capacity" to drain water.
Days of heavy rain and two named storms hitting the region has left parts of Somerset underwater. Photos taken in a south Somerset village show the deluge caused by the recent Storm Chandra, which prompted a major incident to be declared in the county yesterday (Tuesday, January 27).
A SOMERSET village near Taunton is being assessed after floods caused by Storm Chandra. Members of the Environment Agency were pictured on roads in Ruishton, with footpaths and some roads impassable due to heavy rainfall through the night and into the early morning today (January 27).
Lesley Parker says she has been told her house will flood in two days if an extra pump is not used.
