A landmark peace agreement designed to end more than two years of intensifying conflict between Israel and Hamas in Gaza was released by President Donald Trump's administration on Monday.

The first of 48 hostages, both dead and alive, were released by Hamas this morning as Palestinians awaited the expected release of scores of prisoners and detainees held by Israel.

President Trump received a rousing welcome in Israel and declared the Gaza war over. Hamas released the last 20 living Israeli hostages. Palestinian prisoners were also set to be freed.

Democrats are heaping praise on the peace deal struck between Israel and Hamas, which unlocked the release of all living hostages in Gaza. But there are two words most Democrats are omitting when discussing the peace agreement: “Donald” and “Trump.”

A greatly weakened Hamas has sought to reassert itself in Gaza since a ceasefire took hold, killing dozens of people in a crackdown on groups that have tested its grip and appearing to get a U.S. nod to temporarily police the shattered enclave.
