A Google search executive on Thursday pushed back against fears that its AI-powered search will harm web publishers and its advertising business, calling the technology an “expansionary moment” for the internet.

Google has changed its search bar on the Google home page by adding the ability to upload a file or an image, and then the user experience takes you directly to AI Mode.

Gemini wasn’t the only AI chatbot to make the list, as DeepSeek ranked seventh among the year’s trending searches.

Though Koreans may have found moments of peace and fun in hit films like “KPop Demon Hunters” or the “Chill Guy” meme, their online searches reflected a year dominated by anxiety regarding politics, personal finances and internet safety.

A federal judge ruled Google illegally monopolized search but avoided harsh penalties, betting that emerging AI competition will naturally disrupt the company’s dominance. Legal experts warn that monopolies actively resist disruption rather than self-correct; tech giants are funding AI rivals while wielding market power to maintain control.
