The quake occurred about 56 miles from Yakutat at a depth of about 6 miles, and was felt by people across the region.
Since the initial quake, 20 aftershocks have been felt, with the largest around 5.1 in magnitude. There is currently no Tsunami threat. USGS does forecast more aftershocks later in the week.
