Cade Horton tossed 6 1/3 shutout innings and Matt Shaw hit a two-run home run Saturday, helping the Cubs beat the White Sox 6-1 in the City Series.

A fan wearing an “MVPCA” shirt, in a nod to Cubs center fielder Pete Crow-Armstrong, reached over the railing and let the ball slip through his waving arms. It hit the railing over the yellow stripe at the top of the wall, out of Tauchman’s reach, for the first run of the game.

With their infield depleted by injuries, the Rays turned to a familiar face to upgrade their depth on Saturday. Tampa Bay acquired infielder Tristan Gray from the White Sox for cash considerations and added him to the active roster in Cincinnati.

Chicago White Sox right-hander Adrian Houser has the third-best ERA in the AL since May 20. He has been mentioned in trade speculation but is focused on “right now.”

White Sox rookie All-Star pitcher Shane Smith spoke to the media Saturday after pitching a live batting practice session while on the injured list with a left ankle sprain.

Colson Montgomery had 12 games of experience at third base before arriving in the Major Leagues with the White Sox on July 4, and eight of those games came for Glendale during the 2024 Arizona Fall League.

Javier Assad hasn’t pitched for the Chicago Cubs this season because of a left oblique strain. He is nearing a return and will make rehab start Wednesday for Triple-A Iowa.
