Former Treasury Secretary Lawrence Summers said it’s too early to judge the Trump administration’s rescue plan for Argentina, while highlighting that it has incorporated unconventional elements that raise questions.

By his own account, Trump is offering $20 billion to Argentina to help its politically aligned president, Javier Milei, who faces a possible financial crisis and a legislative election on Oct. 26.

WASHINGTON — President Donald Trump on Tuesday threatened to pull assistance for Argentina — led by a political kindred spirit whose philosophy is similar to that of the Republican administration — if the nation’s internal politics don’t align with his interests in upcoming elections.

Economy Minister Luis Caputo said the US remains committed to a $20 billion currency-swap line with Argentina, regardless of the outcome of midterm elections in the South American nation later this month.
