A Pacific storm turned deadly when dry desert winds and Gulf moisture combined over the Plains to fuel dozens of tornadoes and fan wildfires.

Blizzard warnings are in place for parts of Kansas and Nebraska, with winter storm watches stretching northeast into Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan.
