Longwood commissioners unanimously agreed Monday to end a decades-long practice of adding fluoride to the city’s drinking water supply — becoming the latest in Central Florida to do so. Before the vote, Mayor Matthew McMillan said it comes down to a simple question: “What’s the role of our utility? It’s to supply water.”

The Lake Mary City Commission will discuss whether or not to remove fluoride from the drinking water at a meeting tonight. Several local cities have opted to remove it, including Longwood earlier this week.

Texas Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller urged state officials to ban the decadeslong practice of adding fluoride to public water, echoing similar calls from the Trump administration. On Wednesday, Miller told The Dallas Morning News he was swayed by newly confirmed U.
