Kilmar Abrego Garcia, the Maryland man who was illegally deported before he was charged with a crime and became the center of attention for President Donald Trump's aggressive immigration policies, now faces criminal charges in Tennessee.

Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was deported in error and returned to the U.S. last week, appeared in court to face human trafficking charges in Nashville.

Kilmar Abrego García, 29, appeared to be listening carefully through headphones to a translation of the hearing. His wife, Jennifer Vasquez Sura, and other supporters watched the proceedings. It was the first time she’d been in the same room as her husband since he was deported to El Salvador in March and the Supreme Court ordered the government to facilitate his return.
