President Donald Trump ripped into Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, calling him “destructive,” after the central bank kept interest rates steady.

Speaking at the White House, Trump said Powell, whom he appointed during his first presidential term, had performed poorly and jokingly mused about taking over the Fed himself.

President Trump has increasingly pointed to rate cuts by other central banks as he pressures Jerome H. Powell, the Fed chair, to reduce borrowing costs.
