Islanders rookie defenseman Matthew Schaefer continued his impressive start to the season with another accolade on Thursday.

Schaefer scored two goals, including one on a power play, and put two shots on net in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Blue Jackets.

After a sloppy first period in which a pair of power-play goals let them overcome a messy 20 minutes, the Isles took a 4-2 lead into the third after Schaefer put in Anthony Duclair’s feed from behind the net at 6:38 of the second.

Matthew Schaefer begins his NHL career with his first Rookie of the Month award, the league announced on Saturday. He is the seventh player in franchise history to receive the honor.
