Frustrations are growing at the Wisconsin Capitol after a second day of smoke and haze from Canada’s still-burning wildfires.

Last week, Canadian wildfire smoke blanketed Wisconsin and caused the Air Quality Index to reach the unhealthy level for sensitive groups. Six days later, on July 31, the smoke appears to have a worse impact on the air.

The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources is urging residents to limit time outdoors over the next 48 hours due to deteriorating air quality from Canadian wildfire smoke. According to the DNR, widespread unhealthy levels of fine particulate matter (PM2.
