Microsoft has reportedly scrapped its plans on a first-party native Xbox handheld device as it reveals new partner Windows PC handhelds alongside ASUS.

Microsoft and Asus have just announced two ROG Xbox Ally devices that include a new full-screen Xbox experience for handhelds. After promising to combine “the best of Xbox and Windows together” for handhelds earlier this year,

As in SteamOS, a traditional desktop UI will reportedly still be available on the ROG Xbox Ally, but you have to specifically decide to launch it. Hopefully, any version of this interface that also rolls out to generic Windows PCs would be able to save system resources by shutting off the traditional Windows UI entirely.
