THE SYMBOL OF BRUSSELS AND BELGIUM - Atomium
Renovated as a major national event between 2004 and 2006, the Atomium - which was not intended to survive Expo 58 for which it was the flagship construction - is today, with over 800,000 visitors per year, the most popular tourist attraction in the capital of Europe, an art centre and an international symbol of Brussels and Belgium.
The symbol of Brussels and Belgium - Atomium
Beyond its symbolic value linked to its history, the Atomium is also one of the icons of Brussels - the capital of Europe - with which it maintains privileged relations. Since its magnificent restoration (2004-2006), which many do not hesitate from calling the most Belgian of monuments rediscovered its place as an international symbol and icon.
Discover the Atomium
In addition to being the most popular attraction in the capital and providing the most magnificent view of the city of Brussels, the Atomium offers an entirely astounding and surreal ride through its interior spaces and volumes which alone makes a visit worth it.
The shape of the Atomium
The Atomium is shaped like a cube on its tip and represents an elementary iron crystal magnified 165 billion times. Why does the Atomium have this shape? Each World's Fair has a theme and a flagship building.
