The federal government is led by the prime minister of Belgium, and ministers lead ministries of the government. Ministers together form the Council of Ministers , which is the supreme executive organ of the government (equivalent to a cabinet ).

The Federal Government exercises the federal executive power. This Government is now limited to 15 ministers. With the possible exception of the Prime Minister, the Federal Government consists of the same number of Dutch-speakers and French-speakers.
