Other than James Franklin and Ryan Day you can’t really think of any coaches who are as disappointing in big games as these 2. But LSU is a significantly more talented team and more physical team.

If you judge by those metrics, Lincoln Riley is one of the best college football coaches in history, despite the fact that he's never won a CFP game. I don't necessarily think producing pro football talent is less valid than pursuing championships. Technically college should be about putting you in the best position to succeed professionally.

Jan 23, 2023 · Coaches like Riley, Holgorsen, Klingsbury, and Harrell are all considered “Air Raid” but they do a lot more in the run game, utilize tight ends and H Backs, have added new ways of running the core Air Raid passing plays (which as you mentioned are just West Coast plays simplified) and incorporate RPOs and play action.

The real problem is Lincoln Riley's coaching system. It's always going to produce shit defense. OU's defense under Mike Stoops was not the same as the early 2000s defenses, but it was still decent and had some good players. But I fundamentally believe Lincoln Riley will never have a team with a good defense unless he has a major shift in philosophy

Dec 20, 2021 · I mean I’m not expert on Riley’s system, but it’s pretty easy to divide run and pass plays. Look at almost any playbook, there’s different sections between runs and passes for a reason. If you wanted to go in depth with your run game and simple with your pass it isn’t asking a lot, look at the triple option teams.

Oct 23, 2023 · Under Lincoln Riley they are far too finesse and don’t have the physicality to match up with Big 10 teams like Michigan and Iowa. The only other team in the Big 10 not built like a Big 10 team is Ohio State and they are build differently than that Pac 12/Big 12 air raid style.
