Agon, named after the ancient Greek word for contest and struggle, is one of Balanchine’s most famed plotless neoclassical ballets. First staged in 1957, the ballet features a score by Igor Stravinsky and movements based on French court dances. Introduction to dance etudes is the part of the pre-ballet program that everybody loves! It’s another part of the four-component system that introduces the youngest students to the elements of historical dance, character dance and certainly classical dance.
