Malmesbury Abbey has been transformed into a skatepark for half term. This is the 7th year in a row that the Abbey has worked with Nailsea's Christian Skaters UK to build ramps for young people. It's open until Friday night. Reverend John Monaghan explains why they do it. | BBC Bristol

Malmesbury Abbey, built c. 1120–70 and completed under Roger of Salisbury, opens with a remarkable sequence of Romanesque entrance arches. Each order carries its own set of carvings, from biblical narratives to patterned and foliate motifs, arranged to guide the viewer’s eye inward. Inside, the broad round-arched arcades sit on massive piers with cushion capitals, illustrating the structural logic of early Norman design, while later Early English work introduces pointed arches and greater height

It's one of the gems of the Cotswolds -the ancient abbey at Malmesbury. But it's a surprise to discover it hasn't always had a peaceful past. In the 1640s England was engulfed in civil war and the struggle between king and parliament is clearly seen in the walls of the old abbey. Prisoners from each side met their end in a hail of bullets in the churchyard. It's easy to walk past without a second thought | Timmy Mallett

Step inside The Old Bell Hotel in Malmesbury 👀 Thought to be England’s oldest hotel, The Old Bell was first built in 1220 as a hostelry for the neighbouring Malmesbury Abbey. Today, it’s a charming patchwork of history – from the Edwardian façade to centuries-old features like the hooded stone fireplace in the bar, still standing since 1220. Owners Kim and Whit Hanks, founders of @whimhospitality, @camplucyoncreek and @tilliescamplucy in Dripping Springs, Texas, took over the hotel on 31 March

Aethelstan, the son of Edward the Elder and the grandson of Alfred the Great, was the first King of England. He died in Gloucester on October 27, 939. He never married and had no children. His last wishes were to be laid to rest at Malmesbury Abbey instead of in Winchester where his father, grandfather and half-brother had been buried. The location of his original tomb is unknown. In 1539 during the dissolution of monasteries under Henry Vill the abbey was closed and sold and eventually fell in

Opinions on us on Instagram: "Malmesbury is an English hill town on the edge of the Cotswolds. Once fortified, it boasted large defensive town walls and gates, the remnants of which can still be found today. Using these visible remains and archaeological maps, it is easy to trace the medieval walls that once circuited the town on its low hill above the River Avon. Still dominating the town is Malmesbury Abbey. It once boasted a towering spire, said to have been taller than the spire of Salisbury
