Dipper on the beaver cam! This chocolate-brown bird was spotted on DWT's trail camera near the Otter catchment. Often seen bobbing up and down on the rocks, this dipper appears to be freshening up in the hot weather. Bathing is an important part of a bird's routine, as it helps dampen feathers, loosen dirt and makes their feathers easier to preen so they can remain waterproof and keep warm. #AmazingNature | Devon Wildlife Trust

A new pair of beavers on the River Otter! This week, Devon Wildlife Trust released a male and a female beaver, both three year olds captive-bred in Devon, to increase the genetic diversity of East Devon's beaver population. See footage of the beavers being released and an interview with DWT Director Pete Burgess below - or find out more at http://www.devonwildlifetrust.org/news/2016/05/26/two-new-beavers-released-secret-east-devon-location | Devon Wildlife Trust

Say cheese! π· Wildlife cameras are crucial in helping us to monitor beavers and their activity, but they also give us a glimpse of other species that are passing by. Here you can see a polecat, treecreeper, and great spotted woodpecker visiting the wetland habitat that has been created by the beavers in the area. 𦫠The dams and wetlands created by beavers not only improve water quality and reduce downstream flooding, but also increase the diversity and abundance of wildlife - including amphibi

You're looking at the smallest bird in Europe! π With its beautiful golden crown, the goldcrest weighs in at around 5 grams (the same as a 20p piece) and can be spotted in conifer woodlands and parks across the UK. This particular one was spotted by DWT member Roger while walking along the river in Tavistock. Although it is our smallest songbird, it can lay up to 12 eggs in a single nest, which is about one and a half times the adult female's bodyweight. A small but mighty bird! π¦ π·: Roger, D

π§Provide water for wildlifeπ§ During hot and dry weather, itβs vital to offer fresh water for birds, mammals and insects to drink and bathe in. A simple bowl, shallow dish or bird bath can make all the difference β place them both on the ground and up high, and remember to top them up regularly! Sparrowhawks are woodland birds that have adapted to urban green spaces. They are fast and agile hunters of small birds like finches, tits and sparrows π¦ π¦ This female was filmed eating her lunch in a central Exeter garden by our supporter Ben. Did you know? Female sparrowhawks can be up to 25% larger than males - the biggest size difference in any bird. Learn more about these brilliant birds π https://buff.ly/0PLx2Wm | Devon Wildlife Trust

If you hear this distinctive deep βcronk-cronkβ call, you're hearing a raven! π€ These super-smart birds are the biggest member of the crow family - even bigger than a buzzard - and can be seen in upland and forest areas, where they feed on carrion. This one was spotted at Bowden Pillars, near Totnes, where we are currently creating a new temperate rainforest. This vital habitat once covered a fifth of our land, but today, temperate rainforest fragments stretch across just 1% of the UK. The team

This might be your first time ever seeing this.. π In this adorable and remarkable footage, sent in by a Devon Wildlife Trust member, you can see a badger making a bed outside and curling up to sleep - and even having a yawn! π₯± Badgers live in large family groups and sleep in underground burrows known as 'setts'. Sometimes a badger will make an above ground nest too, but this is believed to happen mainly in summer, whereas this rare footage captured the badger falling asleep outside over a num

Beavers are very loving creatures! 𦫠β€οΈ They mate for life, strengthen their bonds through grooming, and work as a team to raise their young. Beaver families are now present in multiple river catchments across Devon, creating flourishing wetlands teeming with wildlife π¦ π π π³ To ensure these incredible creatures continue to thrive, we need your support. We're aiming to raise £28,000 to release more beaver pairs this year, monitor their wellbeing, and collaborate with communities to protect

Our wildlife cameras catch all sorts of activity on Dartmoor, including this special glimpse of a doe and her young. Turn sound on and watch to the end to hear what a vocal little fawn sounds like! π¦π Did you know that female roe deer control when they get pregnant? Mating occurs in July and August, but females delay implantation of the fertilised egg until January of the following year, so that the young are not born during the harsh winter months. Two or three white-spotted fawn - as seen in
