Take a look at our newest video in the 'Shortlist Shorts' series. This week we hear from Heather Phillipson who tells us what inspired ‘THE END' – a colossal mound of whipped cream, that appears about to collapse over the side of the plinth. I’ve been working on this painting for several months and it is finally at the point where small refinements are all that is left. Some paintings come together in a matter of days and others take weeks or months. Art is on its own time! | Heather Neilson Art

Next step on this piece! I love this step - the unexpected ways the colors mix give a great base to the painting. This helps the composition start to take shape. #abstractart #paintingprocess #artreel | Heather Robinson Fine Art

Trying to get myself unstuck on this painting, which is keeping me awake at night. Sometimes a big bold move is the right one. Not sure it was this time but now I have to deal with it. At least it's different! 😀 #artreel #studiolife #artistproblems #artiststudio #acrylicpaintings #artvideo #artprocess | Heather Robinson Fine Art

This stencil is kinda delicate because the loops aren't connected on the top, so I don't use it very often. I need to redesign it so it's a little more sturdy. But it worked well today! #stencilart #stencilreveal #artreel #acrylicabstract #sanfranciscoart | Heather Robinson Fine Art

For a big painting like this (36x48") this process takes awhile. I brush soft acrylic medium onto the back of the fabric, working on half at a time. Then I brayer it down and make sure there's no air bubbles. When everything is smooth and adhered I coat the top with more medium. It saturates the fabric and creates a really good bond. #artiststudio #artprocess #processvideo #abstractpainting | Heather Robinson Fine Art

"If I made a piece of art and it didn't have a story to it or a place to start a discussion, it wouldn't mean anything to me." Artist Heather Layton's body of work includes sculpture, installation, painting, drawing, and more. The medium she uses is determined by the story she wants to tell.
