The servants passage at Chawton House. Jane Austen would have walked this passage many times - it is the only direct route from the exterior door on the north side of the house (the back) to the door on the south side (behind the curtains) which opens onto the lawns. At the southern end is the South Hall, with the hanging staircase that goes to the top of the house, and a door to The Library (now the Lower Reading Room). I LOVE seeing this passageway open from end to end, as it would have been.
