Unconditional love doesn’t mean unconditional tolerance. We accept their shortcomings but that doesn’t mean we have to tolerate harm. Wisdom is knowing that we can still love them unconditionally by holding them accountable so they can grow. We set those boundaries so they can have the space to remain in our lives and we can help to encourage the growth. But by accepting terrible behavior we are enabling them to never love us in return.
